How to secure slackware 9


Can someone point me in the right directions of secure my slack please like ipchains ipsec i dunno a firewall or sumthing any suggestions would help im new to linux and wanna secure it any good security sites with docs on them plz post em thx

The guarddog firewall is good if you have kde - you can use it if you normally run gnome, but have kde as well. In slack you have to make a link from the file it generates (/etc/rc.firewall) into the /etc/rc.d directory

If you have a dial-up or other direct connection the portsentry and logsentry utilities are a very good idea - these stop any portscans and allow for easy checking of logs. It may be that these are no longer available on the web - I will mail you them if you like or post them on gnutella if there is enough interest.

I have a NAT connection now and use snort, snortsnarf and guardian to moniter activity
