Okay,

I have a couple of problems with this thread, mainly being:

1) KDE 4.0 is not something that should be used.

Note there is a difference between KDE4 and KDE 4.0. Installing KDE4 is one thing. KDE 4.0 is an 'old' version of KDE4 that was released for debugging and testing purposes and was never claimed to be ready. As others pointed out, if you really want to have KDE4 on your slackware-12.2 without upgrading to -current, compile KDE 4.2.4

2) Compiling KDE4 is not just source/kde and source/kdei

KDE4 requires a substantial amount of extra libraries that are not part of the kde{,i} diskseries. IF nothing else .. I haven't seen anyone mentioning QT4 (which is in l/) and I know there are at least a dozen others that KDE4 will need.

Frankly .. if you want to have KDE4, I think your best bet is too READ the UPGRADE.TXT, the CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT and various manpages and upgrade to the latest of -current.

I honestly think it's not worth installing KDE4 on slackware-12.2 unless you are willing to do a *lot* of extra work and tinkering with the system. Upgrading to -current or staying with KDE3 (which really isn't all that bad), are the really decent options...

just my 2p before coffee..

I think that's been pointed out to the OP, but he doesn't seem to take any notice.
