how to install external harddrive ION USB 2.0 IOGEAR?
hi, got this 30 GB external harddrive, which will give me more space.
It's on USB but I have no idea how to make it work with my Slackware, hope it will be easy (in Windows I only plug it in and works great) Can someone please walk me through? I am experienced Slackware "user" not a technician and will start with this to get out of the baby shoes. THanks cara |
please follow usb mass storage threads in this forum and http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Hardware USB Card Reader HowTo for guidance. Good luck.

mass storage: iongear installation in slackware
thanks for your hint, I tried several times to find something in your link to
find the answer, but could not, would you please be a bit more specific? thanks in advance cara |
The usb card reader and usb/firwire external HD tutorials in the link I gave should help you.
The easiest way is to format the new drive in XP as fat32(into 1 to 3 partions) so XP and linux can share the drive. Then you will need to 1)edit /etc/fstab and 2)mkdir /mnt/vfat1 or /vfat1 ,for example, for each partition on the new HD. You may need to look in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules to make sure the usb-mass storage module is available. Search for usb mass storage threads in SW LQ forums. |
Thanks a lot lestoil for your assistance, helped me especially with the Fat32 hint, I had to do it a bit different but your input helped me lots, thanks, it is working great now.
