Hey, the more people who don't have to wade through the dozen or so READMEs that I did the better, as far as I care. I mean, I like reading new ones because you generally find out about handy new features (like UseEvents), but after awhile they all start to blur together unless you're taking detailed notes as you go along.

I get this error - No window decorations will come up.

bash-3.1# LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=true compiz --replace ccp && emerald &
[1] 18438
bash-3.1# Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
compiz (core) - Fatal: Root visual is not a GL visual
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

I looked at my xorg.conf
it has the load glx in there.

Any ideas?

Well, fixed that problem. Apparently I didn't have Composite and DLX set to "On" in my xorg.conf.

Still no window decorations. NO matter what theme I choose with emerald I don't get any decorations.

compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0

anybody any idea?

Interesting things of life...
Saw on another thread about someone that tried a different user and it worked... guess what?
Did the same and the new account works!

I wonder... tried deleting a couple of config folders (the . ones) but nothing. deleted from compiz to kde passing by all X and dcop, dbus... everything slightly related but nothing changed.

found some interesting way of solving the "Another Window Manager" problem.
first I kill the present one (killall kwin) and then I start compiz
working "perfectly"
but with different user it was straightforward. Strange that it is...

Somethin worth noticing.

I'm using compiz 0.6 with ccsm 0.6 plugins 0.6

Whenever I start compiz it works fine. I can restart and everything is fine.
If I change any options through ccsm it gets broken with the "another window manager" message and only works again if I delete my .kde folder. Previous folder from when the system was working don't solve the problem.
Now my quest is to find out which files are altered when compiz is started and which files are altered when compiz's configuration files are edited.

I'm having a strange problem!!
When I do this command: LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=true compiz --replace ccp && emerald &

no error appears, but the screen becomes white! I just can see white!! hehe
If I put the mouse at the upper-right corner, the background becomes light gray and some white rectangles with the icons of windows open appers. I can rotate the cube too, but is always white!!

What should I do to correct this??

I removed cairo-1.4.10 and installed cairo-1.4.2 from a bz2 file cause gslapt didn't found this version!
gslapt didn't found emerald-theme package too, so I installed it from linuxpackages.net

Could be this the reason of the problem??

I didn't know at all linux when I wrote this tutorial. Now I know more and I see the problems in my tutorial. I will not update it. Simply you can read other tutorials and see if you find the resolvation for your problem. I solved the errors in simple ways but not with necessary things, I only put together the files that will configure seamlessly the files that would need to be edited. The download sources changed and the files are not the same, because this some of you will get errors.
If I remember pycairo I only added because it configured ccsm for pygtk... If u don't get an error like pygtk is not installed not this is the problem...

brevleq u tried to start only compiz without LIBGL ALWAYS INDIRECT ?

d_d your command was wrong, you should noticed that the command is not compiz --replace it is or only compiz or compiz --replace kwin or
compiz --replace emerald... (If I remember right)
