Try typing 'startx'.
Alternatively, edit /etc/inittab to read 'id:4:initdefault:' to set your default runlevel to 4. Now when you boot up you'll automatically go into a graphical login intead of text based.

Dont change the inittab until you can "startx" from cli with not problems!

( I have changed video cards and forgot to change to run level 3 and caused myself all kinds of grief :) )

Happy slacking

:)
