how to enable mouse wheel in slack 9.0?

Hi, I'm new here.
I need some help, can somebody tell me how to enable mouse wheel to scroll in Slackware 9.0 (for example in konqueror).
Do I need to install a specific driver for that?if that's the case where can I find the driver?
I'm a newbie,just migrated to Linux today,please don't use difficult terms.
thank you.^^

Which mouse do u have?
For mine, M$ optical Explorer:
In your XF86config file, in the mouse section u have to do:

Replace the "Protocol" ... with "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
For the wheel:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"...

thnx for your advice

I'm using MS optical mouse blue.
I've changed the XF86config file.
from
"Protocol" "USB" to "Protocol" ExplorerPS/2"
and then I add the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
then I restart X,but the wheel still don't work.

after that I used the converter (usb to ps/2) which is bundled with my mouse and restart my computer.

Linux said that it is unable to find the mouse. and I can't start X, because the mouse is missing.
can you tell me how to uninstall the "previous usb driver" of the mouse and change it by using ps/2 interface?
