how to create /dev/sm56

hello

i have install the motorola sm56 fax modem driver from source

it's manual says that

Quote:
Installing the SM56 Modem is a two step process. While
logged as root:

1. Install the RPM file. Replace sm56.rpm with the real
name of the file you obtained. This step is probably
already done since this man page is distributed inside the
RPM.

rpm -Uvh sm56.rpm

2. Run the setup program to relink the module to the cur-
rent kernel version, set the local country code, and cre-
ate the necessary devices in /dev. The script creates the
device /dev/sm56 and the link /dev/modem pointing to it.
If a country code is not entered, a default country code
of 1 (USA) will be used.

but in slackware 9.1 this setup scrpt do not work

now how can i make /dev/sm56 in dev

my driver is loaded in

Quote:
root@localhost:~# insmod sm56
Using /lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/drivers/char/sm56
insmod: a module named sm56 already exists
root@localhost:~#

Open the script with a text editor and search for /dev/sm56, or find the place where the device is being created and runt eh vommands manually from the command line. Yopu might want to ud e rpm2tgz to convert the rpm to a tgz then use explode pkg on it(in a new dir) and have a good look at what's in there.

Or use mc to browse files inside the rpm.
