How to connect to Broadband internet on USB modem in slack 10.2

Hi,
I recently installed slack10.2. I have a USB modem Huawei MT 882 (the manual says its a router) provided by my ISP. The slack has detected it(i also have a driver provided by modem manufacturer Huawei) and i can see it in - devices-->usb category of hardware-browser in KDE. I have broadband (xDSL) connection (256kbps) which works fine under windows xp.
So how to use that connection on slack???
I have tried netconfig but it doesnt ask me about what device i am using. It fails too. I mean nothing happens after that.

I have been trying this on RH9 too but failed.

You may want to try something newer than RH9 which is several years outdated. Also, try installing an ethernet card rather than using USB (apx $10).

I guess that what you want to do is to get an IP address. Just edit "/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf" accordingly and run "/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 X_start", where X is the name of the device assigned to the modem. You can use "ifconfig -a" to list all your ethernet/ethernet-like devices. It has worked for me with all the USB modems which work as routers I've tried, but I don't know if it will work with your specific model, tho'.

One basic question I want to ask that, How to identify the name Linux gives to each of your devices Like what would be my modem's name under linux?
One more thing that do I need to install my driver (given by modem manufacturer) when my machine is showing the device?
Some posts here suggest to use "adsl-setup" ; I am using slack 10.2 by I havent found that command (as root) Whats this "rp-pppoe" I have tried that too but no use.

I think my modem/router isn't configured as "ifconfig -a" gave me

What does it mean?
