LinuxQuestions.org - How to boot slackware from an USB hard disk?

hi,

here i am again -- asking for help.

i got a pretty cool notebook vprmatrix and like most of notebook it is winXp. i have long for a day to be m$ free but there are aps still not in linux - income tax software for example. to make the story short ... i "need" winXp resides on the built-in hard disk but i "want" to be able to boot from an external usb or firewire harddisk which i can carry around and plug in the notebook when i don't "need" the winXp.

i used slackware for a long time so i would like to carry slackware with me into the era of booting-from-usb-harddisk (slackware let you do some really powerful and cool stuff).

so here you have it. where do i go from here?

bye the way, i have done kernel/server/apps compiling and installation before but it all came with price - "finding" right info, studying the info, trying and fooling around with configuration --- it took quite a bit of time (= life). i am sure you know what i mean if you have been there yourself. so please help me with what i "want" and hopefully with your help i won't have to burn midnight oil.

ps, sorry i forget to mention that i have a 70+ g external usb harddisk. there is enought room to use it just like a regular ide harddisk (have several partitions for /, swap, /usr, /home, ...) if i know how.
i do have several 128/256m usb disks and i could use them for a "mini" installation as well. but i really like to have the "full" installatin as the first preerence. thanks again.
