how to add desktop icons in slackware 13.1?

In other distros I just right-click the program and it gives me the option, but in Slackware it only says Add to Favorites. Can't figure out how to drop links onto the desktop

Kinda depends upon the window manager you are using, which you didn't tell us.

I think you are using KDE right? (The add to favorites thing)

You can try to drag them to your desktop. You may also want to configure desktop for folder view instead of the default.

You can also right click on the desktop window and select "link to application"

Hi,

I use the 'Classic View' and when you select the program with a right click the 'Add to Desktop' option is available.

EDIT: Just switched to 'Kickoff' and it's the same.

Add to favorites then right click it in favorite and it gives the option for desktop or panel.

right-clicking in the Favorites menu doesn't even give a context menu.

Any clicking in the 'Favorites' is event driven therefore the launch of that application.

Do you have you widgets locked? It will not give you options unless they are unlocked.

okay problem with the right-clicking favorites turned out to be that I use the old menu style (with the tree list) instead of the default style. Changed back to default and it worked for me.

(1)right click on desktop.
(2)go to folder view "activity settings"at bottom.
(3)when it opens go to "activity".
(4)change "type" to folder view .
