how I configure gconfig in kernel update 2.6

I am a linux newbie and slackware lover ,I have been trying to upgrade my kernel 2.6 manually for 2 days .I follow all insturction from http://shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack/.I follow everything carefully but I couldn't load the kernel because I screw up a lot in make gconfig .I don't understand much about hardware and it's setting so it make it more diffcult. Then I try to load the old .config file from my kernel2.4 folder ,it did load but for some reason it would not save or even let it configure .So I open two gconfig and load old .config from kernel 2.4 and copy everything manually .It took me almost 2 hours to copy it exactly as old .config but not only I manage to copy it all but also I put new figure in kernel 2.6 like write NTFS and other cool stuff.I install it configure my lilo to load with two kernel 2.6 and 2.4.After that everything went smoothly.

I hope my thread help some newbie like me who have problem with gconfig .It petty hairy to read and understand all hardware figure from your system box let alone finding the right driver for your drive.

Here's some tips:

instead of "make gconfig", use "make xconfig". I like that better lately.

Before you start compiling, "lsmod" will help you know which modules you use.

This thread details many of the options. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=224524

You can use the "Load" button to load any config file you want. I think this would have saved you a couple of hours.
