how do you make slack detect new hardware?

When I installed slack I had to remove all my usb devices so I get rid of the bad EIP value that halts the install. now that everything works fine usb is nt detected even recompiling the kernel (2.4.22).

Any ideas as to how to make slack re-detect hardware?

thanks

chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug

if thats already executable, mabee you dont have propper drivers for your USB devices

if that doesnt work, tell us what USB devices you have

usb printer HP deskhet 3320
4 port USB hub
and a usb adapter playstation to pc converter.(gamepad)

When I use to use mandrake 9. with an older 2.4 kernel all of that hardware was detected. So I know that this kernel supports them as well. It's just that I ran into that problem with the installation with slack that I had to remove the usb devices.. 2.6 kernel isn't for me yet. Did it run smooth? yes...did I have trouble enabling dri on my ati card? Yes.

Thats the only problem I have with slack. is getting it to recognize my usb devices. Everything else is perfect

a few things;
first off, were you ever able to use your game pad in linux?

second, have you installed and configured CUPS? CUPS works in slack as long as LPRng isnt installed, first make sure LPRng isnt installed (if it is installed, uninstall both it and cups) then install CUPS, then 'chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups' and restart, then go to 'http://localhost:631/admin' on mozilla, and click 'add printer'

lastly, what kind (chipset) of motherboard do you have? have you enabled AGP GART for you motherboard during kernel config? and have you told the ATI configurer to use its own GART module or not?
