I've burned many Linux iso files in the past years that were bootable (i.e., Slax, Knoppix, DSL, etc.). I need to check my harddrive in my laptop which only has a cd rom drive...no floppy drive. The harddrive is a Hitachi and Hitachi provides an iso file on there site that will "create a bootable CD* for Linux, Windows and other Operating Systems". I downloaded the iso and burned it with k3b as a data cd image as I've done in the past. It doesn't produce a bootable cd. How can I edit their iso file so that it is bootable?
i agree. if the iso file you downloaded is supposed to be burned to a cd and that iso has the code to be bootable then all you have to do is burn it to a cd. but you do not burn it as a data cd. burning an iso is differnet than data cd.
you should also verify in your bios that your cd rom is the first boot device, then your hard drive.
