How do I save my desktop profile...

Everytime I log on I have to right click on the background and click configure desktop--multiple desktops and bring the number of desktops down from 4 to 2, every time. Where do I go to make this change permanent?

Did you press the "Apply" button to save that setting?

I've been glancing through the files in the ~/.kde directory, can't find anything to do with number of desktops. Can't think of anything else.

No. Well, I've always kept the default 4 desktops, never tried changing it.

Yeah, I've always gone 4, but now that I've been using tabs in the konsole, 4 seems like too much. I usually have several konsoles going on in one desktop, and firefox in the other.

Have a look at the file ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc. It contains a setting under the section [Desktops] called Number which sets the number of desktops. Perhaps changing this manually will help.
