Question how do I remove the <space> in the usb hard drive volume name

In 14.0 the toshiba canvio usb hard drive has a space in the volume name. when inserted fuse/udev (?) mounts the drive as ntfs file system. the volume name is "TOSHIBA EXT". mirror-slackware-current.sh doesn't like that. it blows up. I tried using ntfs tools to change the volume name. It didn't work on a mounted drive the ntfs-3g driver shows me the volume label and the cmdline options in /var/log/messages. What is the fix? Change the volume name somehow? Teach udev/fuse to use a different mountpoint? Suggestions please

Unmount the drive, then:
Code:
# ntfslabel -f /dev/sdb1 TOSHIBAEXT

Another thing that might is to put quotes on each side of the name, that works most of the time. "TOSHIBA EXT"
