How do I make linux/KDE recognize my cdrom/dvd player

First HERE is my system info. Different video card.
Here is my fstab:
Code:
/dev/hda2 / ext3 defaults 1 1
#/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
I am logged on as root
------------
I'm not sure how to make my Slacware/KDE recognize my cdroms or any other drive for that matter.
I know I have to edit fstab at some point.
I installed Slackware by cd so I know my computer is detecting said drive during boot.
When I insert a CD into my cdrom IN KDE I recieve this error
Code:
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this
message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected
message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "mount"
error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")
I recieve this same error when I try to mount the drive. So atleast the disc is showing in konqueror.
Based on the info given where should I start?
This is a linux noobie questions but I wanted Slackware/KDE specific answers.
Thanks

Your problem (and much more) is discussed and explained in sticky "12.0 and HAL - READ THIS!" and it's old news.
Basically what you need to do is add your self (including root) to plugdev group.
Cheers!

Oh man...must bite tongue...

Add your user to the cdrom, plugdev, audio and video groups. Read the (long) HAL stickied thread at the top of this forum. A simple search would have turned up tons (TONS) of threads dealing with this issue (or even a google search). This issue is also mentioned in the official documentation when you install Slackware, in CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT. And trust me, this is biting my tongue.

[edit]It's also mentioned (a little more throughly) in Slackware-HOWTO, also official documentation that came with Slackware. It's also mentioned in ANNOUNCE.12_1. The information you seek is out there -- many times. In the future, please at least do a quick search (it doesn't even have to be an in-depth search) on these forums, and on Google, before asking a question. If you can't find an answer, then by all means, ask away.[/edit]
