I got the files for Slackware-1.1.2 from one of the /pub/historic sites and now I'm trying to install it into a VirtualBox machine, just to see how it was so long ago.
First I made a CD iso but the cd_boot can't detect the CD-ROM. So now I'm trying to make a set of floppies - one floppy per directory (a1, a2, a3 and so on) but the installer always tells me I've inserted the wrong disk. The disk is a 1.4M img file, a copy of the cd_boot img file which works, and formatted from within a pure MS-DOS 6.22 environment. As a quick test I copied the config.sys from that DOS machine, mounted the disk from the root prompt of the installer and successfully viewed the file. Do the disks need volume labels? Do the files have to be arranged specifically? What does the installer look for to determine the correct disk(s)?
