i`m running it with KDE,my soundcard is on the mbo.
Each thing has to be setup individually:
Start with one, resolve it, and work your way down your list.
Searching LQ would be a good idea, as most if not all of your
issues have been covered before.
Here are some things just to get you started. Without details, its about the
best I can do.
printer:
USB or Parallel ?
You have CUPS running? type ' pkgtool ' -> setup -> services -> rc.cups
Go to a webbrowser and type 'localhost:631'
soundcard:
As root or SU, run these commands:
alsaconf
alsamixer
alsactl store
dvd player, cdrw, floppy
Whats the problem with each? You mounted it right?
dvd - can't watch movies? or can't read from it?
cdrw - can't burn or can't read from it?
floppy - can't mount it?
The more details about your problems, the better. Just trying to get the ball rolling.
-tw
to mount your cdrom or dvd, open a terminal such as xterm or konsole and type
mount /dev/cdrom
or
mount /dev/dvd
for floppy, it's
mount /dev/fd0
you might have to do these as root, but you can change that by editing your /etc/fstab file to show something like this:
Code:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0 0
yours probably says noauto,root,ro...change root to user and you can mount it as a user. do the same for the floppy and the dvd if it's a separate device...

1- First, find out what sound card you have. Type ' lspci ' as SU or root to get that info.
Read through the output and make note of what audio device/chipset you have. Example Output for the line your looking for: 00:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07)
I`ve got it all up and going(drives mounted).
