How do I change the permissions to mount a device

Hi guys, I try to mount my cdrom drive, but it shows a message that says that only root can mount it. how can I change it? I want that every user can mount this unit.

You need to edit the cdrom device in the /etc/fstab file. It should look something like this:
Code:
/dev/hdc       /mnt/cdrom       iso9660     noauto,user,ro  0   0
The user option is the one that lets anyone mount that drive.

Another Question

If this drive is a cdrw drive this configuration would detect that is a cdrw?

It should. If you use a 2.4 kernel, cd-rw drives should be /dev/sr0, then it's recognized as a burner.

If /dev/sr0 is not detected, then try adding this:
Code:
append="hda=ide-scsi"
after the read-only line of your bootable linux config section in the /etc/lilo.conf file. Be sure to run /sbin/lilo after you edit the file.

hi there..

i think should be

append="hdc=ide-scsi"

i don't believe that /dev/hda is a cd drive.. ; - )

/dev/hda can be any IDE device if I'm not mistaken, it's just which drive is connected to which port. On my machine I have both my cd drives on my motherboard IDE ports, so one is hda and the other hdc. My three harddrives are connected to an add-on PCI IDE card, and they are the devices hde-g.

agreed! my mistake.
i though about the most simple setup. that for any reason your HD was a "slave" from a "master" CDDRIVE..
sorry.
