How do I add the XFCE weather plugin to my desktop?

have you tried right-click on your panel, you should be able to add items there..

For clarity's sake, it's a panel plugin, so it will go in your XFCE panel (xfce4-panel), not on your desktop (xfdesktop). Right click inside your panel in a blank area, hover over "panel ->", click on "panel preferences", when that opens, click the "items" tab. Then click the "+" or "add" button to add a new item to your panel, scroll down and click on "Weather Update" to select it, then click "Add" at the bottom. It should pop into your panel. You'll need to configure it for your location.

Mine, in use. I don't believe there's a way to display it on the desktop, as one might with KDE.

Edit: actually, you could do this by creating a new, floating panel, with just the weather applet, and make it transparent, I believe.
