How can I personalize bash with my own language?

In other distributions I've tried (debian, arch, ubuntu, frugalware, etc) the shell is localized in my own language (italian). In slackware it's pure english. How can I use my own language?

The shell? I think you mean the command line utilities.
Set you locale in "/etc/profile.d/lang.sh" and/or "/etc/profile.d/lang.csh" .

I've already modified these files, and now the applications (for example gimp, the xfce desktop, etc) are localized in my own language (italian).
But the shell bash and its messages are still in pure english. Any hints?
