How can I get rid of skipping or choppy playback with my Audigy soundcard?

Hello, all, have a question on the brain - one I can't quite solve myself. Under Slackware 11, (and KDE) my Audigy card works fairly well - except for choppy sound. I reduced some of it by reducing the buffer size to 8 ms, but that didn't cut it out completely. If I use a Slax or Knoppix LiveCD or run SuSE 9.1, there is no problem. Video works fine. I've read something about a different module for the Audigy line, not "emu10k1," but don't remember what exactly.

lsmod reveals this:

Hmm... what about those outputs in Slax? Then we can see what the differences are.
