How can I check my installation for success?

I just installed slack on a new HD and I chose the bare minimum. The install went so quickly that I am concerned that it didnt install correctly. It did boot normal though but that install went so fast I feel like something went wrong. What can I do to check the install?

you will more than likely want more than a bare install...
just go with the full and remove packages as you
realize that you have no need for them.

I was going to do that but I kept getting install errors on some packages. I am now trying to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.17, Im doing like 5 different things at once, Its kinda the hard way to learn...
