Plugging in and powering on an external SATA II hard drive device while in run level 3 results in the device being correctly assigned permissions of brw-rw--- and ownership of root:disk.
Plugging in and powering on an external SATA II hard drive device while in run level 1 results in the device being assigned permissions of brw------ and ownership of root:root. These latter assignments result in the disk not being recognized.
While in run level 1, changing to run level 3 results in the assignments being updated correctly.
I tested this in 13.1 and 14.0.
Why does this happen? udev rule quirk?
Is there a work-around to ensure the device is correctly assigned permissions/owneership when in run level 1?
