I do know where you get dvd. but it certainly not from slackware site. I advise to use original and not 10.1 but 10.
10.1 is a developpers distro, meaning it is BEING manufactured

One more piece of advise for newbie.
Linux is Open Source distribution. So, patience is required.
Remember one thing Shakespeare said:

"While boiling, liquid's flowing over edge,
increase by view is only
but in fact is damage"

O.K Done lecturing

Unfortunately this is where my journey with Slackware ends. I spent three days that should be spent studying on searching for a solution.

Until I find a Slack 2.6.9 DVD image I'm not trying anymore.

As I have already told you
Go to ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...ent/bootdisks/
Download bootdisk with kernel called sata.i and use it to boot your sata slackware

Acctually not....By now i've already pretty much gave up on Linux. The hell with it. And i've been only using it 2 days. Using...Well trying to get it working.

Sofar, i've tried the following methods:

1.DVD Image with kernel 2.4.27; has sata.i in /kernels and in /bootdisks
1.1With disk in Enhanced mode -> host protected area => 1
1.2With disk in Enhanced mode off (btw is this in Legacy mode then?!) -> havent tryed it yet, will do it now

2.Floppy with sata.i bootdisk
1.1With disk in Enhanced mode -> host protected area => 1
1.2With disk in Enhanced mode off (btw is this in Legacy mode then?!) -> usb segment fault

Well .... I'm tired, but still...If somebody can confirum that the disk is in Legacy mode when not in enhanced mode i think i can install it.

Judgin by this:

http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html

This solution should work:

Code:
1. Switch the motherboard BIOS back to "legacy ATA mode" (parallel ATA = PATA). Complete a Linux installation. Fetch or build a kernel with support for your chipset. Switch the BIOS setting back. (Potential catch: It's claimed that Dell Optiplex GX270 and Dell Precision Workstation 360 desktop units, using Intel ICH5 SATA chipsets, don't support switching to legacy ATA mode. This might be true of some others.)

What now? .
Nothing works. Shouldnt kernel 2.4.27 have antive sata support already? My DVD image has sata.i in /kernels aswell as in /bootdisks ....

Anyhow i'm fresh outta ideas.

No. 2.4 is stable kernel. 2.6 is testing version, which is not included on original CD

I booted my box with =sata.i= and it worked for me
Hmm.., are you sure that is not the BIOS issue?
