hidden files

I know that hidden stuff like files and directories have a period before the filename, so how do you get them to show up when you do an ls command in the terminal?

Include the -a parameter in the command:

ls -al /etc

You can list all files with : ls -a
and to list only files that begin with a dot : ls -d .*

If you use it often, you can make an alias in your .bashrc file. I have mine as la.

Code:
alias la="ls -a"
