but i cant carry on anyway, so im confused a little.
could sum1 please point me in the right direction?
Hmm. Sorry but I don't know what you mean. Maybe start all over again and write down the errors you get. It's always a good idea to write down anything unusual.
Not trying to put you off Slack but have you tried Mandrake 10? It is so easy to install it's not funny. I had problems installing Slack but I'm really glad I stuck with it. Still, it was frustrating at times and took me a few attempts.
ok. Delete all the partitions with cfdisk and start over. Create the new partition with the [New] option and choose [Primary]. Make it 1GB (you can get away with half that but let's play it safe.
Then create the following partitions:
* 1GB Logical and select the [Type] option and enter 82. This will be your swap.
* 10GB Logical partition (to be used as /usr (mounted later))
* 10GB Logical partition (to be used as /home (mounted later))
* 1GB Logical partition (to be used as /var (mounted later))
* 1GB Logical partition (to be used as /tmp (mounted later))
* 5GB Logical partition and select the [Type] option again and enter 0B (that's Zero B) This will be your Fat32 partition to use as a placeholder for files that both an XP system and a Linux system can read.
Finally select the [Write] option and write the partition tables. After that select [Quit] and type setup in the command prompt.
From there you have to mount the partitions. I think it's option 4 but I can't recall exactly. You will see it when you ge there.
Ok i did as you said and went for install... got about half way and then
"There was a fatal error attempting to install /var/log/mount/slackware/xap1xv-3.10a-i486-3.tgz"
and then nothing but that on everything trying to be installed
Hey eoj, on the computer you are installing on, are you using an older cd-rom? I had pretty much the same issue (except it gave me the fatal error message right away) and it turned out to be an issue with the cd-rom. May I suggest switching out the cd-rom with another and giving it another try.
