Help with Optical Drives

I am in the process of setting up Slack and I am trying to set up my Optical Drives(my CD-RW and my DVD drives). I tried following Shilo's advice using fstab but I couldn't get it to work. I need to be able to mount both those drives so I can listen to music and watch DVDs. How can I do this?

I also have another related problem. I have my ALSA driver set up and running and I can listen to mp3s(not off a CD though) but I don't get any sound from Firefox when watching a flash film or a website with music on it. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Here's what I did:
During install, do what it says - write hdc=ide-scsi
Then to listen to music cd, kicker->Multimedia->CD player (KsCD)
To watch DVDs I downloaded xine, and installed according to advice from this forum, then kicker->Multimedia->xine->dvd

You don't need to mount the drive(s), KsCD and/or xine does it for you.

Firefox needs a plugin to get some sounds, may not be available.

Well I guess I'll have to be a bit more specific. I know my ALSA drivers are working and I know that XMMS works because I can listen to mp3s that I moved over from Windows. I can't listen to CDs though. My DVD player appears as my CDRom drive(whenever I press eject from KsCD the DVD drive opens and I know KsCD is set to my /dev/cdrom) and I don't know where my CD-RW drive is. I need to be able to mount these so I can not only listen to music off them but so I can read data. Right now I get errors if I try to mount my CD or DVD(not sure which one is which though).

Nvm... about the Firefox issue... for some odd reason its working now... without any changes.

Which kernel are you using? Are you using SCSI emulation? "dmesg" should tell you which optical drive is which device; i.e. /dev/hdc, /dev/hdd, etc. So, which optical device is which drive? You've got to know that before you set up fstab.

The problem with sound on CDs could be a few things. The first idea is the proper volume control is turned down or muted. That happens a lot. Another comm,on thing is the souind cable never got hooked up right when the computer was put together.
