Help with Graphics Driver

I use slackware on my laptop and it uses the i810 driver.

I have just installed slackware on a friends PC, and lspci lists his graphics card as an

Intel Corp 82865G Integrated Display Adapter, which I believe uses the i910 module. Is this an installable module in the same way that the i810 driver is?

Yes it is in the kernel. So use modprobe, lsmod etc

If the i910 does not work try i915, i810 ...

Best

Just use the xorgconfig and follow the prompts, I have the same video integrated and it works fine with the intel 810 through xorgconfig. Are you using 12.1? With 12.0 their was a prob;lem with i810 driver but the fix was easy.

Configure xorg.conf to use the "intel" driver.

You should have the following modules loaded automagicaly:

Code:
bash-3.1$ lsmod | grep i915
i915 25600 2
drm 73876 3 i915
The xorgsetup command provided a satisfactory xorg.conf file.

The only issue I have found is a significant delay in goolearth start-up although once started, it works fine. This was solved by compiling and installing the latest mesa package. Slack 12.1 comes with 7.0.2 and the latest is 7.0.3. You can use the slackbuild script in the source directory, but you will need to edit the version number references and comment one of the patch references that specifically referres to a 7.0.2 fix. If you don't use google earth, then I have not had any issues. I have foo billiards and neverputt/ball working fine. glxgears gives around 700 fps at 1440x900

Code:
bash-3.1$ glxgears
3516 frames in 5.0 seconds = 703.132 FPS
3559 frames in 5.0 seconds = 711.796 FPS
3559 frames in 5.0 seconds = 711.747 FPS
3560 frames in 5.0 seconds = 711.943 FPS
3551 frames in 5.0 seconds = 710.078 FPS
3531 frames in 5.0 seconds = 706.116 FPS

bash-3.1$
