Help with 3com 3C940 and kernel 2.6.4

Hi!

I installed Slackware Linux 9.1 a few weeks ago, so I'm definetely a newbie. Yesterday, I compiled and installed the 2.6.4 kernel (after a few reconfigurations, I got it booting, and some of my problems with the 2.4.2.2 kernel were solved with this new kernel). In 2.4.2.2 my network card (3com 3c940...), worked perfectly having downloaded the drivers from the ASUS site (untared them, compiled them and ran insmod, etc. worked perfectly) Now when I do the exact same thing with the new kernel, it compiles fine, but I get "invalid module format". After reading a few threads here and there, I downloaded a new version of module-init-tools (3.0 or something...), and installed it (maybe I did something wrong here..any suggestions?) but I still get "Invalid Module Format".

Maybe the answer to this is obvious, but I'd really appreciate some help here

Hi there,

I used the SysKonnect driver, SK-98xx on the 2.6.4 kernel and it works fine.

Same deal, Slackware 9.1, 3c940.

Give it a try.

[*] 3COM cards
<M> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support

Did you overlook this when compiling your new kernel? Your probably getting "invalid module format" because that COULD be an old driver made for an old kernel that is not compatible with newer kernels... Just my guess.....
