Help tonight? Sound problem recording!!!

Ok sorry to repost but I just cant seem to get my sound to work right, I can get it at times but never to record. So here it is. Once again I have re-installed slack 9.1 and I had sound but no recording. I did a simple swaret update with version 9.1. after that I lost sound, so now I have just removed all of alsa with pkgtool. SO no alsa at all.
Can someone please help me tonight to get sound back up and able to RECORD!
Thanks, I will be on late again tonight
