help on laptop's LCD backlight

Good day everyone!

Why does sometimes after I turned my laptop on it doesn't change the backlight of
my LCD when I pressed the decreased backlight button (fn + left).

My laptop is an acer aspire 5315 and sometimes it works and
sometimes not. I am a little bit annoyed because I always wanted
to lower or adjust my LCD's backlight to have a longer battery life.

I have also tried using the xbacklight -set command and just like
the problem above it sometimes work and sometimes not.

I think the problem is not in my videocard because I configured
slackware and it detected it w/ intel 960 GMA (X3100).

Why is that when I try to adjust my LCD's backlight it happens
to be a hit or miss??

Anyone w/ the same problem??

thanks in advance!!

Do a google search for linux and your laptop model. This may turn up helpful information. Otherwise, you need to take a look at your log files, particularly ACPI logs as those are what should be triggering with the function key. Look there and post back here what you find for further assistance.

Hi!

(This is my first post here on LQ. Wow!)

I have an Acer Aspire 5720 with Intel X3100.

Same problem.

If you boot whit runlevel 3, after login
in terminal, decrease backlight (Fn+left).
Then startx... Now try if backlight changes
with X running.

I don't know why, but on my laptop it works
with this trick (discovered by pure chance).

(Slackware 12.0, driver video-intel 2.2.0)

Bye!
