Help needed to connect tata photon CDMA datacard (dongle) from command-line

I want to learn how to connect to Internet from command-line (if i choose to work from runlevel 3 and not to use X). I'm using a tata photon CDMA data-card (dongle) for internet connection. I could not find a concise tutorial about how to do it. Can anyone give reference to a thread that will help me do this? I want to know how to identify the device and configure it using Linux utilities. Thanks in advance!
