help getting cs46xx sound to work
I have a Hercules Fortissimo 2 soundcard that I have gotten to work with various versions of Slack in the past but with a recent install of Slackware 10.1 on a new computer I am having some troubles. I am using kernel 2.4.29. The driver my sound card uses is the cs46xx.o module. I have the sound support as a built in option in the kernel, with the cs46xx module as a separate module. Upon booting the kernel seems to load the module all by itself (after booting I check lsmod and I see that it is loaded). However, I have no mixer control with alsamixer. When I try to run alsamixer I get the following error message:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device Thanks for any help. |
Have you ran alsaconf as root yet, it should fill
properly your /etc/modules.conf |
When I ran alsaconf it said that it couldn't detect any PCI soundcards. However, I did manage to get sound to work. I think the ALSA utilities somehow got corrupt. I used the Slackware Package Tool and uninstalled all four of the ALSA related packages and then reinstalled them from the Slackware CD. I then restarted my system and sound started to work (the alsamixer and alsaconf worked).
