having fonts, how to install them

Hi!
Since lacking suitable X fonts, my KOffice and Konqueror open some documents/urls (which I'm interested in) with boxes instead of letters. Now I did get the needed font files to make readable those documents but don't know how to install them. Could anybody please teach me? I would strongly appreciate a command line guide since being afraid of GUI. However, a GUI method is also welcome as a starting point in seeking the command-line undergoing way.
Thanks a lot in advance!

as far as I know, you put the fonts in a directory / directories where X looks for them upon starting...your xorg.conf of XFree86.conf (or whatever you call it) includes the lines for loading fonts. like /usr/share/fonts. but you really should check your X's config to be sure...then, after copying the files there, restart X to get them loaded.

at least that's the way I got more fonts installed...

Isn't there a module in the KDE Control Centre for managing/adding fonts? Using that would mean that only you and not other users will see the new fonts (perhaps), but if that doesn't matter...
