have Slackware 13 DVD but DVD drive stopped working :-(

Hi,
Just received my Slackware 13 DVD but my DVD drive has stopped functioning on my laptop. I have a desktop with a working DVD drive. Is there an easy way I can use my available resource to install Slackware on my laptop?

See README_USB.TXT and README_PXE.TXT in the usb_and_pxe_installers directory of your DVD.

adityavpratap,

make a boot usb, as documented in README_USB.TXT. Then write the whole "slackware" directory to another usb or external hard drive. Boot from the usb stick, mount the slackware directory somewhere, e.g. on /mnt/hd, start "setup" and select the "mount from a premounted directory" option, then select the "slackware" directory from its mount point, e.g. /mnt/hd/slackware.

From http://connie.slackware.com/%7Ealien/, so you will need just one usb stick:

My scripts, patches and instructions to build an image file for the USB equivalent of the bootable Slackware CD/DVD. This installer can fit on a flash key ( also called a pendrive) of 256 MB or bigger - you get more packages on a bigger pendrive.
This is different from Slackware's 'USB installer' in the 'usb-and-pxe-installers' directory. That 'USB installer' uses a small image to boot from a USB stick. It contains no packages and therefore needs to install those from a DVD, CDROM set or NFS server.
My usbinstall scripts on the other hand, create an image which contains Slackware packages as well, so that you no longer need that DVD/CDROM/NFS. Copy the image to a big enough USB stick, and carry it around with you. Install Slackware wherever you want.

Try PXE

The same happened to me when I got my 12.1 DVD, I used PXE for the first time and now I do all my installs that way!

See README_PXE.TXT on the DVD - good instructions, but read carefully and understand the point of each step.

I now run my installs and several bootable DVDs from PXE as the prefered method on my little LAN... highly recommended.
