It provides all the basics. You get all the needed system libraries and all the services, both for the server usage and for the desktop. Then you can add user space packages (emacs, kde, xfce, etc.) as you see fit.

You need xap for emacs, the emacs group itself doesn't actually install emacs....I had this discussion :-)

Well, I didn't include neither "e" nor "xap" in the minimum install, but that's probably because I'm a vi user. Emacs lovers will probably consider that it absolutely required on a system, which is fair, but at least, it's not required for anything else, I guess.

You might need some libraries from xap (or x) anyway, I don't remember which now, but if you need some "graphick magick" feature on your web site (ruby/php)...

It needs imagemagick from xap as it's not included in the Emacs package group. The Emacs package group is only there so you can exclude it if you wish, not so you can add it.

Well I'm not talking about emacs (*), but web application frameworks (ruby/rails...) but yes there's some need of X's libraries for image magick, that's what I was talking about...

(*) Sorry I'm starting to get paranoid... Am I doomed with emacs always coming out ? :)
