My gvim in Slackware 11.0 has syntax colour enabled.
Do you have a ~/.vimrc which overrides the coloured syntax in /usr/share/vim/vimrc ?
If your /usr/share/vim/vimrc has
Code:
" Switch syntax highlighting on, when the terminal has colors
" Also switch on highlighting the last used search pattern.
if &t_Co > 2 || has("gui_running")
syntax on
set hlsearch
endif
and still the app shows no colors, there could be something else disabling colors, but I don't have a clue what that would be. Here for me, it "just" works.
Ah, that is what you meant! Gvim does not know what kind of syntax you're writing util you save the file once, and then it will use the filename extension (.c , .html etc...) to determine the default syntax.
You can also choose the desired syntax from the "syntax" menu.
