gui login screen only not the same after reinstall?

i reinstalled slackware 9.1 on my laptop (just for the learning experience). anyway, on my previous install i changed my inittab file to startx automatically. that worked beautiful... i got a login screen that prompted me for a usename and password. there was even a side panel to the left that displayed all available users.

after reinstalling slackware and editing my inittab to startx automatically, i got a gui screen that first asks for the username and after clicking through, i get promted for the password. furthermore, i don't see the available users on the left.

the screen also looks totally different. there is a BIG picture of a sunflower in the bottom right corner of the screen.

can anyone please tell me how to get my original login back where i can select users on the left and get both username and password prompts on one screen.

You are going to want to use the KDM session manager. Open /etc/rc.d/rc.4 and find the line that says something like "use KDE session manager", and move it above the line that says something about the Gnome session manager. Or you could just comment (#) out the sections about the gnome (GDM) session manager. That should work
