GTK Error

I'm using Slackware 9.0 and thought I installed most everything to compile programs. I'm trying to install Gaim-0.63 and during the ./configure portion, I received this error message looking at the config.log.

configure:13662: error:
*** GTK+ 2.0 is required to build Gaim; please make sure you have the GTK+
*** development headers installed. The latest version of GTK+ is
*** always available at http://www.gtk.org/.

This is the error message during the compilation:
checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.
configure: error:

I do have the GTK+ 2.x and the 1.x versions installed when using the pkgtool to view files.

I did add Gnome as a desktop but really don't use it. I'm currently using KDE desktop! But it seems I'm missing some header files!

How can I install just the files I need?

Thnx.

I just did a google on gaim and saw that they have released gaim0.64.
Maybe they patched the bug that is causing your current problem.

i had that problem, and it took me about a week to figure it out

i dont know that this is your problem, but what fixed mine was puttin the install dir for gtk glib atk pkgconfig and all gtk's funny little deps into my path. after that everything worked fine for me.

this was on mandrake, but i imagine it'd work on slack too.
