Hello!

I've recently been playing around with grub2, and have it working pretty well on a few installations here. Grub2 improves on many of the shortcomings from legacy-grub, such as non-x86 (including native 64-bit) support, ext4 support, direct ISO booting, themes, scripting support, etc. (ubuntu's wiki has a pretty good comparison).

Anyway, I've put the slackbuild + a quick how-to on my github repo, at:

Obviously, changing bootloaders can be a risky operation, so only attempt if you've got a spare machine, or want to play around a bit (and understand how to repair, in case something goes wrong).

I do not use Slackware but since you agreed to comments etc?

Did you try to test grub2 without lilo uninstalling? If so what happened in terminal messages please?

2) forgive me for telling you how to suck eggs but suggest you modify your email address from grub.info link to
string <at> gmail dot com as a robot caught my address at a bug site and altho gmail correctly identifies it as spam I still have to click on spam folder to see if its my real mail

Thanks for this. It got me off my backside & installing grub2 on my systems. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but have been a little put off by the warnings about manually editing grub.cfg. Once I got over that bump, all went well. You do need to update the download path in the info file & possibly massage the slack-desc a little.
