Post Grub menu stalls at the selection of slackware

I have multiple OS on my Dell N5050 and booting using GRUB. When in installed slackware, i skipped the LILO part and added slackware entry to existing GRUB. Below is the GRUB conf.

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ###
if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then
load_env
fi
set default="0"
if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then
set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}"
save_env saved_entry
set prev_saved_entry=
save_env prev_saved_entry
set boot_once=true
fi

function savedefault {
if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then
saved_entry="${chosen}"
save_env saved_entry
fi
}

function load_video {
insmod vbe

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/41_custom ###
if [ -f $prefix/custom.cfg ]; then
source $prefix/custom.cfg;
fi
### END /etc/grub.d/41_custom ###

Although all the OSes boot properly, sometimes (especially when i reboot or select the OS too quickly) it freezes on slackware selection and doesnot show "decompressing linux..." I need to hard reset to start the system.

I want to know why this happens and what is workaround for it.

Is the grub conf ok or do i need to rectify it?

Thanks in anticipation of the priceless help.

No offense, man. But your post could serve as an eloquent explanation why Slackware still sticks with LILO.

It seems that vga=791 works for the other distributions, I would try that.

Sorry, I misunderstood...I thought it was only Slackware that "freezed", disregard this..

/Håkan ...who also is a grub2 user

I've used Grub2 with Slackware without any issues. LILO is used only because it's simpler to setup and use than Grub2 and uses less dependencies. Other than that eLILO, LILO, Grub-legacy, Grub2, and syslinux all work fine to boot your system.
