Question going to MIDI, will it work?..

Going to buy M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and a MIDI keyboard in addition. Will it work? Anyone has an experience of playing on a MIDI instrument with Slackware Linux? I beg for positive ones...

The M-audio card is supported by ALSA:

The MIDI keyboard ... I wouldn't know, what brand is it ? Look it up on google.com/linux.

I checked that before posting here :)

I think that does not matter, because MIDI is universal, the controller does not know what is on the other end of a cable, it only receives signals, not caring who sends them. The other fact is that I'm not certain about even particular brand of a keyboard. Wish it was Roland, but I'm afraid my cash is very limited...

The main question is had anyone got MIDI keyboard working on Slackware? What steps have you produced to make it work?

And the second is: what about the m-audio card and it's MIDI input. The reason of this question, I've seen messages about it not working up to 2.6.22 kernel.

I have the same audio card and MIDI works just well here.

My modprobe config for the card is :
Code:
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-ice1712

alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
See with lsmod if your midi modules are loaded
(snd_seq_midi_event, snd_seq, snd_rawmidi, etc...)

Then connect your keyboard, run
Code:
amidi -d
in a terminal and play some notes, then note the terminal output.
Midi spec at: http://www.midi.org

Thanks, thought this topic will be left without satisfying answers, just like many others of mine... Now after your post I'm definite to buy it and a MIDI keyboard. I am willing to ask more questions later, when all of this will be bought.
