trying to install gnome but get this error message ERROR: file: "libgw-gnc", message: "libgnomeprint.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" libgnomeprint.so is installed on my box, so what am I not doing correctly? Thanks for ur help!

Thanks, I have read thru it but it seems to me that there is just to much involved in getting it to work. If it worked as well as Quicken it would be worthit, but I have used it bfore and it is not that good. Maybe time to removepkg!

Gnucash installation on slack is just so complicated that I gave up on it a long time ago. I wish the Gnucash devs would port it to GTK 2 and save us all the hassle.

They (GnuCash Devs) are working on a Gnome 2/GTK 2 port right now. Forget about getting GnuCash 1.8.x to build on anything later than Slackware 9.1 (or at least I've never been able to do it). Matter of fact the last time I tried to compile it on 9.1 I got the same error that OP stated.

The easiest way is to install the old Gnome 1.4 apps that are required, and specifically called out in the link in another post, then you have to compile gwrap with the slib support. Next download the gnucash package from Linuxpackages.net and try it.

Personally, I'm waiting on the Gnome 2/GTK 2 port before I even attempt it again.

Til that time you can always use CheckBook Tracker

I already compiled gwrap and slib but never fear an alternative is here, I just instaled moneydance and until Intuit ports Quisken to Linux i guess it will have to do. I am gg to check out Checkbook tracker though. Thanks again for everones help!

I have compiled and rpm2tgz-ed about 20 packages by now and still I can't run it. It took more than an hour. I havent seen such a program with so many software dependencies.
For now, I just left it and I wont come back to it until better times :).
It's Slack-current.

If I really need it I'll try apt-get in Debian to see how dependencies are.

Until GnuCash can be made more "compile friendly" you can try some alternatives:

If you look at the buttons along the bottom of your post, you will see an 'edit' button.
You can use that to fix your typos... in case you didn't know.

gnucash is buildable on any slack, but it's gonna take some work. you pretty much have to build about half of the gnome-1.4 desktop ( for gnucash gnome lib requirements) plus a few extras. you also have to replace a couple packages that came with slack ( I replace glib-1.2 and orbit-0.17 ( which will require a *minor* source code modification)). it goes pretty smooth if you've been there a few times, but it takes a while to build all of it.

Yes I know it is build-able and it does take some work, but it's just not worth it to me now. I installed Moneydance last hight and I will give it a whirl until Intuit ports Quicken to Linux. Thanks for all the help!!!
