Hi I just install slackware 11 after using 10 for almost two year now. Everything going fine and I notice that it didn't have gnome desktop anymore , well,I wasn't complaing because I am a kde fan . But recently I need to to write 50-60 document with a lot of picture on it and kword was doing ok.And then after writing ten pages I found out that I run out of ink in my printer and I need to printf my doucment in a cyber cafe and in kword I don't see any way to save the doucment as doc (microsoft) format.I live in burma and in burma people are not familiar with the term linux and a few expert who know linux mistake red hat as sole linux distributions.Getting anywhere in burma print kword format is a mission impossible. And I remember that openoffice got .doc format , so I download the openoffice from it website and install it as root in a shell (./install )and it inttall it in /usr/src/openoffice folder and when I try to run any bin file such as soffice or anyother thing I get segement core fault and could not run anything .I tried linuxpackages.net and all the .tgz file are above 120 mb at 4 to 6 kb per sec whiche would take 6 to 9 hours to finish the download .In burma that is also impossible ,I am lucky enought to get someone send me slack11 cd from aboard .Well I althought I been using slackware since 9.x I am still a newbie and I need to printf those document ,I need to print in color so even if I buy new ink cartiage it won't do . Is there anyway I could install openoffice without going throught much problem by downloading .tgz file from linuxpackages.net
Thanks for the recommendation to SlackBuilds.org - we appreciate it.
For what it's worth, if you'd prefer a package that was built using that script, it's hosted at http://slackpacks.rlworkman.net (along with a few others - note that you should *definitely* read my ChangeLog if you use anything there).
Alternatively you could save the file in Kword as .rtf.
MSOffice "understands" this format.
I try it with rtf format also but the problem with that format is that it save the text file but when u open it in ms office all the picture in it are lost.It issue the warning that the format will be change but when I try it save the text format and all but picture were lost. The Document I am writing is about gem thesis and of course it only get full mark if you could show the gem .I have to download the open office again because I had download it 1.5 version and slackbuild got only for version 2.1.
You can export the document in PDF format from KWord. Later on you can open a PDF from anywhere as long as the Computer has Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.
I just found out about it later . When I tried save as ,I didn't find pdf format and I assume kwords didn't have support for it but later I found out that I could save as pdf by printing as pdf , I didn't know that.
