gnome fonts look bad in Slack 9?

Why does GNOME have sucky looking, badly anti-aliased fonts in Slack 9?

It's not just GNOME, but all of slackware 9 with crappy fonts. Installing dropline gnome ( is one way to get better fonts, or just install the microsoft fonts it uses.

See my post here for what I did. This may help, but I still havn't seen a true fix for the fonts that come with slackware 9.
