Gnome 2.6 gnome-settings-daemon "Well, It Worked before..."

Hello,

Ran in to a snag this afternoon, I installed Gnome 2.6 on to a fresh slackware 9.1 system with the exception of having the new XF86 4.4 installed. After I log in through GDM it complains that (like you've probably heard millions of times before) gnome-settings-daemon has restarted too many times and will be called back next time that I log in. I don't quite know what's going on, and rhythmbox also won't execute, it complains that libgstgconf.0.8.so.0 doesn't exist. I have installed Gstreamer and that doesn't seem to have solved the problem. I have read about removing all gnome related dot-files which I may do this evening.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks,

Paul D.

Did you install 2.6 or upgrade to 2.6 from 2.4?

If you upgraded there are some additional packages that Gnome 2.6 needs. One package that solved the errors for me was to make sure I installed shared-mime and libcroco. For some reason, they were not installed after my upgrade. I had the same problem as you until I installed those.
