Gnome 2.6 and gst-thumbnail

Hi.

I've compiled and installed Gnome 2.6 on Slackware 9.1. I've done this several times already and I am unable to make thumbnailing work. gst-thumbnail produces a file of 0 bytes when used manually. Gthumb doesn't work either (and it shouldn't be dependent on gst-thumbnail). I was hoping some of you excellent fellow Slack users could help.

Here's a screenshot illustrating one of my problems... no icon thumbs (and they are there (if I click Browse I can find and change them)).
