gnome 2.6


what's the easiest way to upgrade to gnome 2.6 from 2.4 ?

i'd say either Swaret or dropline..........

yup. but i have run into problems with using swaret to upgrade to gnome-2.6. just use dropline-gnome, installation went smoothly, but facing problems with the /proc folder.

how do i setup swaret to get gnome-2.6, coz everytime i use swaret --install gnome-2.6 it tells me that there's no available packages with that particular keyword

Make sure you're using slackware-current and run swaret --update first

Careful with updating using swaret, though. There are a few new packages in 2.6 that weren't in 2.4, and one or two that aren't in 2.6 that were in 2.4, so you'll have to install & remove them yourself. If you only want a spanky new Gnome, you might be better off with Dropline.

Good point, I've had some bad luck upgrading kde. You might need to use the command line to undo or repair the upgrade if it doesn't work.

I would suggest using the changelog to know what to install and what to remove. Then download all the needed packages. After that removepkg all the old packages then installpkg all the new ones. Worked fine for me.
