Hi guys,

I updated the new mesa package. glxinfo now works, it doesn't link to glinfo anymore but I get a strange dri message I wasn't expecting.

81 GLX Visuals

As you can see it says I have no direct rendering but it also states my OpenGL renderer is coming from video card, not software indirect mesa rendering. So I don't really understand this?

My xorg log also looks ok, no DRI errors or anything.

It even says DRI initilization successful. Plus glxgears is giving me results in the mid 40000s so that's ok too.

So any idea why glxinfo is telling me I have no direct rendering?

Hi, iro_number1 has a guide that may help....

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/blog.php?b=1639

iirc, a kernel config and rebuild is recommended. (I thought dri and drm was "off".)

Been a while since I used fglrx/ati/amd/radeon graphics.

you might also find some help by googling "xorg ati" or "xorg fglrx"

Look for readme on your system too. locate or find

regards Glenn

Just reinstalled ATI drivers. Problem solved. glxinfo: Direct Rendering = yes :)

GlennsPref 09-20-2009 10:29 PM

What's the frame rate like now?

One thing I thought may give you more options, --help after the installer command.

cheers, Glenn

GlennsPref 09-20-2009 11:39 PM

Of what? glxgears?
Code:

bash-3.1$ glxgears

58574 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11714.788 FPS
58585 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11716.897 FPS
58597 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11719.309 FPS
58569 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11713.638 FPS
58561 frames in 5.0 seconds = 11712.179 FPS

Options for what? Everything is fine now :)

You could have run 'LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxifno' (as it suggested) to get more debugging information about why DRI failed.

Well, drivers from NVidia and ATI are replacing some files, that are shipped with Mesa software, or are hard-linked with specific version of libraries.
So, upgrading Mesa _allways_ need to be followed by reinstallation of graphic drivers, if You need hw acceleration.
